Leavenworth is the oldest city in Kansas, founded in 1854, and its housing stock shows it. Brick and frame homes from the 1800s sit a few blocks from newer construction, and the two ask completely different things of a glass shop. Westport Glass has handled residential and commercial glass since 1947, from custom showers and mirrors to wine cellars, window replacement, storefronts, and specialty glass, all built for Leavenworth homeowners, builders, and designers.

Older houses settle, and Leavenworth has had well over a century to prove it. Openings go out of square, walls lean a degree or two off plumb, and a stock shower kit ordered to nominal dimensions leaves gaps that no amount of caulk hides for long. We build frameless, semi-frameless, and framed enclosures cut to the opening you actually have.
That is the practical case for custom glass in a city like this one. We take measurements after the tile is set and cured, capturing the real plumb and level conditions rather than what the plans assumed, which is what keeps water inside the shower and the door swinging true years later.
Safety comes first on every install. We use tempered glass only from suppliers holding the highest safety certifications, rather than the bare-minimum in-house tempering some shops rely on.

Leavenworth is the one city in the metro where antique mirror work is the obvious choice rather than a specialty request. The aged, softly clouded finish belongs in a Victorian entry or a period dining room in a way that a flat modern mirror never quite manages, and we fabricate it in our own shop.
We also handle custom-cut mirrors, gym and fitness mirrors, framed and beveled pieces, and backpainted glass. Every piece is cut to exact size, then set level and tight with the right trim and hardware. We can cut a replacement to fit an original frame that has lost its mirror, which is common in houses that have changed hands several times. Homeowners restoring an older property are welcome at the showroom to see finishes in person before committing.

Many older Leavenworth homes came with something newer construction has to build from scratch: a stone or masonry basement that already holds a steady temperature. Those spaces convert into glass wine cellars beautifully, and the interesting work is in the transition, sealing glass cleanly against stone, brick, and original framing that was never milled to a modern tolerance.
We build custom glass wine cellars, temperature-controlled enclosures, and climate-separated systems. Racking, LED lighting, humidity control, and cooling equipment all have to work with the glass rather than against it. Decades of fabrication experience is what makes the joint between a modern glass wall and a nineteenth-century foundation look intentional.
Ventilation and drainage usually need attention in an older basement as well, and those are better resolved alongside the glass than discovered after it. We walk the space before anything is ordered, which is the only honest way to price a conversion like this one.

A handful of specialty services round out what we offer. We install glass panel railings, stair railings, interior and exterior railing systems, glass partition walls, and heavy glass walls. Glass stair panels do good work in older multi-storey homes, keeping a narrow original staircase open to the light instead of boxed in behind a solid rail.
We also supply security glazing, privacy glass, etched designs, and pattern glass, along with furniture glass, tabletops, and shelving.

Downtown Leavenworth runs twenty-eight blocks of shops and restaurants, much of it in buildings put up in the 1800s. Storefront glass in those openings is rarely a standard size, and the masonry around it does not move to accommodate a stock unit. We handle storefront glass repair and replacement, commercial glass doors, heavy glass installations, all-glass doors, and custom manufactured glazing.
Historic districts often carry their own review expectations for what a storefront can look like, and we work inside them rather than around them.

A great deal of glass in Leavenworth is simply old. Original single panes and early insulated units are well past their service life, fogging between the panes and letting conditioned air walk out of the house. Kansas seasonal swing accelerates all of it.
Replacing the glass rather than the whole window is usually the better answer here, and not only on cost. It preserves the original frames, sashes, and trim that owners of a historic home generally want to keep, which a full-frame replacement destroys. Where the existing glass has a particular character, we can usually match it. We handle window glass, insulated glass units, and patio door glass repair under one service.

Glass tabletops and shelving provide protection and style. We cut glass to size for furniture, shelving, and display applications. Options include polished edges and beveled finishes. Tempered glass is used for durability and safety. Custom glass shelving and tabletops help preserve surfaces while maintaining a clean, modern look.

Leavenworth, Kansas is the oldest city in the state, founded in 1854 on the Missouri River and known for generations as the Gateway to the West.
While trying to install new handles on a mirrored chest of drawers, I cracked the fronts of 3 drawers. We tried to find anyone who could fix our problem, but no one seemed interested. When we discovered this store, we took in a drawer with the crack lines. Four different employees came to look at it and together, they came up with a strategy to remedy our problem. They applied beveled mirror on top of the previous glass and we couldn't be happier with the results! In fact, we like the chest better now than its original appearance. It was the willingness to listen to our problem and take an interest in actually helping us. We are VERY GRATEFUL to Westport Glass & Mirror of KC for coming to our aid. We recommend them highly.
Punctual with pickup and delivery. It was only a one hour window and they did what they said they would do. Excellent customer service. Gave me options on replacement glass for console table. They were knowledgeable about their product and did a beautiful job. So refreshing to have a company with customer service. I will definitely use them again and highly recommend this local company. They also did a new shower door for me years ago - once again, I was thrilled with the door and their service. Go Local and use Westport Glass when you have the opportunity!

Very reliable, VERY careful about measurements and getting it right the first time, and great prices for the high level of service.
